The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket FFA Chapter held their annual awards banquet on May 2.
During this event, FFA members’ accomplishments are recognized, Greenhand and Chapter Degrees conferred, and those who have gone above and beyond to help the FFA are honored with the Honorary FFA Degree.
The night’s keynote speaker, past South Dakota State FFA Treasurer Jonathan Linke, also addressed the crowd.
The two main fundraisers for the Chapter are fruit sales and Crystalyx card sales, which go toward the costs of CDEs and State Convention. The SC/W FFA Fruit fundraiser had gross sales of $18,500.  After costs, the chapter netted a profit of $5,493. The top individual salesman was Colton Hotchkiss, with sales of $2,516. Top family salesmen were Nathan and Aaron Linke, with sales of $2,532.
Total income from the Crystalyx card fundraiser was $3,800. Out of that, Riley Schmiedt sold $1,000 in cards, and Garrett Dean and Trevor Olson sold $2,020.
FFA members were recognized for awards they had received throughout the past year while competing in area events such as Land & Range Judging and Leadership CDEs (Career Development Events).
At the state level in the area of Beef Entrepreneurship, Jonathan Linke received a Gold Emblem for his proficiency application. In this area a student owns the enterprise or business that uses the best management practices available to efficiently produce and market beef.
Lastly, the FFA recognized this year’s Honorary Degree recipients. The Honorary Degree is presented to those who have rendered outstanding service, including business people who are helping to advance agricultural education and the FFA. The Sanborn Weekly Journal was honored for its dedicated coverage of FFA events. Forestburg Farmers Elevator was recognized for its financial support through programs like Crystalyx.
