Edith Olson, 92, Huron, formerly of Artesian, died Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Prairie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11 at the First Lutheran Church in Artesian. Burial was in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery at Artesian. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 10 at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Edith Faye Lager was born July 29, 1923, near Esmond to Carl G. and Bertha (Larson) Lager. As a young child she moved with her family to a farm near Fedora. She attended school at Fedora, graduating in 1941. She attended Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish and began her teaching career in Sanborn County rural schools. Later, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Dakota Wesleyan University and taught elementary grades in Artesian and Huron, completing 41 years of teaching.
She married Otto Olson on Aug. 26, 1951, at First Lutheran Church in Artesian. They lived on a farm near Artesian for 28 years, moving to Huron in 1979.
She belonged to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Joy Circle, Huron Area Retired Teachers, Delta Kappa Gamma, American Legion Auxiliary and Past Presidents.
After retirement, she and her husband, Otto, enjoyed traveling, visiting most of the 50 states. She enjoyed visiting family and friends, reading, crossword puzzles and playing cards.
Edith is survivedby her twin sister, Edna Baade, and many special nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto; her parents; brothers, Charles and Elmer; sister, Helen Lookabill; brothers-in-law, Dale Lookabill and Rex Baade; nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to be made to the Mount Pleasant Cemetery at Artesian.
