Twenty-two Sanborn County seniors will receive their high school diplomas at commencement exercises to be held this Friday in Woonsocket and Saturday in Forestburg.
Friday evening, May 13 at 7 p.m., 11 high school seniors will become Woonsocket High School alumni, and Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m., 11 students from Sanborn Central High School will bid their farewells.
Woonsocket High School’s 2016 valedictorian is Rex Schlicht and co-salutatorians are Tayla Weber and Garrett Larson. Bailey Moody and Josh Feiner are co-valedictorians at Sanborn Central’s ceremony, while Logan Effling is salutatorian.
The eighth grade classes at each school will also be recognized as they receive their diplomas and are welcomed into high school.
Woonsocket eighth graders graduating this Friday are: Megan Baysinger, Cage Boschee, Malachi Bruce, Miles Dise, Jessa Fisher, Ely Garcia, Bailey Huss, Mariah Jost, Ashlynne Larson, Taylor Lindsey, Carter Linker, Megan Linke, Wesley Linke, Isabel Miller, Evan Ohlrogge, Brooklyn Swenson, Graceana Terkildsen, Weston Uttecht, Josie Weber, Kaylee White and Taryn Ziebart.
Special music will be provided by the Woonsocket High School Chorus. The Woonsocket High School Class of 1966 will also be honored on their 50th anniversary of receiving their high school diplomas.
Woonsocket High School Class of 2016’s motto is “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” Their class flower is the red-tipped carnation and class colors are red, silver and black.
The Sanborn Central eighth grade graduating class consists of: Samantha Dean, Chloe Degen, Dakota Kidder, Karly Krueger, Tater Moody, Amber Schelske, Katie Schmit, Cayden Slykhuis, Destiny White and Aiden Wormstadt.
Guest speaker for the ceremony, chosen by the senior class, is Mr. Corey Flatten. Tamra Mann will perform a solo, “If We Hold on Together,” by Dianna Ross.
Sanborn Central’s seniors chose white roses tipped with royal blue for their flower and their motto is by James Dean, “Dream as if you’ll live forever, live as if you’ll die today.”
At each ceremony, scholarships will be awarded to deserving seniors with plans to continue their education.
