Friday house fire displaces Woonsocket couple

A housefire caused significant damage to a Woonsocket home Friday afternoon and again that evening.
The home of Don and Terri Schmidt near the southwest corner of Woonsocket suffered heavy damage from an electrical fire, said to have started in the attic.
The Woonsocket Fire Department was called to the scene around 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8. They were called back to the home at 8 p.m. because the fire had back-fed along the wires and reignited.
The flames went through the roof and a hole had to be cut in the side of the house to put out the fire. The home also suffered severe smoke and water damage.
The homeowners were able to remove many items, such as some photos, important papers and some other items, from the home after the first incident, so as to save them from the second.
The Schmidts are unable to occupy the home due to the extensive damage.
