Modern Woodmen of America members in Woonsocket recently helped raise money for the Sanborn Central-Woonsocket Band by hosting a pie and ice cream social with their marching band concert.
The event, held on Nov. 16, raised a total of $5,010. This includes $2,500 matched by Modern Woodmen’s home office through the organization’s Matching Fund Program. The money was used to purchase a trailer to transport their band equipment.
The Matching Fund Program offers Modern Woodmen members nationwide the chance to show their support for a community cause, organization or individual in need by holding fundraisers. Modern Woodmen matches money raised up to $2,500. These fundraising projects contribute $9 million to community needs nationwide each year.
“This community always comes together to support these kids,” says Malde, local Modern Woodmen chapter activities coordinator. “This trailer will really help especially with all the travel that they do to activities and between schools.”
Coordinated by local Modern Woodmen members, chapters provide opportunities to take part in social activities and community service projects to meet local needs.
“With the new 2016 changes in our Fraternal program, the more members we have in the community, the more dollars we are able to put back into the community of Woonsocket every year.”
