Wayne Peters

Mesa, Ariz.

Wayne August “Punch” Peters, 84, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Woonsocket, died Thursday, May 5, 2016.
A memorial service will be held in Woonsocket on Saturday, July 2. Additional details will be published at a later date.
Wayne was born Sept. 6, 1931, to August and Alma (Spies) Peters. He grew up on the family farm near Lane and attended Vermillion College in 1949. He joined the Navy in 1950. When his father died in 1951, he was discharged to help his mother farm.
On Sept. 20, 1957, he married Marilynn Gutzmer. He worked on the Chicago Northwestern railroad in Huron and also pitched for Woonsocket and several other local baseball teams. Wayne moved to Mesa, Ariz., in 1968, where he attended Arizona State University.
He is survived by his wife, Marilynn; son, Anthony (Diana); daughters, Kelly (Mike) Langley of Mesa, Ariz., and Gail (Cindy) Peters of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Arlene Acker of Tea, and Betty Authier of California; three brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by an infant son; two sisters; and three brothers-in-law.

Betty Giovando

Sun City West, Ariz.

Betty Alice (Earles) Giovando passed away Mar. 31, 2016, in Sun City West, Ariz.
She was buried at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Betty was born Dec. 19, 1927, in Mitchell, to George and Frances (Wheeler) Earles. She attended Dakota Wesleyan University and graduated from Black Hills State College before embarking on a professional teaching career, beginning in South Dakota and eventually moving to California.
While teaching in California, Betty met and married John Giovando on Feb. 23, 1963. Following her retirement from teaching, she traveled extensively in the United States and abroad.
Betty is survived by her sisters, Gwenn Vallery, of Nisland, and Carol Hendrix of Artesian; brother-in-law, John Trabing of Buffalo, Wyo.; sister-in-law, Marge Earles of Boise, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Giovando; her parents; a sister, Arlene Trabing; and a brother, George Earles, Jr.

The Sanborn County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. with Chairman Ebersdorfer presiding.  Other members present were P. Larson, S. Larson, Blindauer, and Ohlrogge.  Auditor Larson was also present.   Motion by Ohlrogge, seconded by S. Larson, to accept the minutes as presented.  All ayes.  Motion carried.
