The Young Ladies Pinochle Club met at the home of Karen Sonne on Wednesday evening. Shelly Knutson and Emma Klaas were guests. Winning high was Nancy VanOverschelde, second high – Shelly Knutson, Pinochle – Lynette Kingsbury and Jane Amick won both low and traveling.

Emma Knox obit pic 35  Emma A. Knox, 94, of Fort Dodge, passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 at Friendship Haven.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2016 in the Celebration of Life Center, Friendship Haven, with Rev. Bethany Willers officiating.  Private burial will be at North Lawn Cemetery.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the Celebration Center, Friendship Haven.  Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family.
Emma is survived by her sons, Gary and his wife, Jenise, of Fort Dodge and Randy Knox and his wife, Charlene Erickson-Knox, of Northfield, MN; daughter, Judy Blair-Frye and her husband, Vernon Frye, of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Eric, Jason, Diane, and Sally; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Lloyd Kempf of Woonsocket, SD; Albert Kempf of San Antonio, TX; sisters, Fern Dent of Platte, SD; and Esther McCoin of Eads, CO.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Knox in 2011; parents, Frank and Margaret (Hansen) Kempf; sister, Marjorie VanDyke; and brother, George Kempf.
Emma Agnes Kempf was born October 10, 1921 in Woonsocket, SD.  She graduated high school and continued her education with teachers training.  Emma taught in three different cities in South Dakota and spent 20 years at the South Dakota School for the Deaf.  Emma was united in marriage to Albert Knox at the Methodist Church in Alpena, SD on October 6, 1943.  The couple established their home in Alpena.  She was a member of the South Dakota Teachers Association and was a summer school teacher.  Emma was very active in the church community and taught Sunday school.  She held several positions in the Methodist Church women’s group and youth groups.  In 1961, the family moved to Sioux Falls, SD.  After retirement, the couple moved to Woonsocket, SD, and then to Friendship Haven, Fort Dodge, in 2009.  Emma also had a great passion for quilting and loved to share her skills with others.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Supervisor Randy Cope of Ravenna Township, Sanborn County, South Dakota, presented the following Resolution and Order and moved its adoption:
WHEREAS, a petition having been received asking for the vacation of the highway described as: That portion of the township highway lying on the section line running between Section 3 and Section 4, the one-half mile north of 239th Street on 415th Avenue. Said highway is approximately 66 feet in width and approximately one-half mile in length, Ravenna Township 105-59.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, AND IT IS HEREBY ORDERED:
That the said highway described as: That portion of the township highway lying on the section line running between Section 3 and Section 4, the one-half mile north of 239th Street on 415th Avenue. Said highway is approximately 66 feet in width and approximately one-half mile in length, Ravenna Township 105-59, be, and the same is hereby declared to be vacated; and further that a copy of this Resolution and Order be spread on the minutes of the Board;
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that said resolution shall be published in the Sanborn Weekly Journal once each week for two (2) consecutive weeks; and that after such publication, such highway shall be, after a lapse of thirty (30) days, vacated without further proceedings unless appealed as hereinafter provided; and that the Clerk herein is further ordered and directed to cause to be recorded a true and correct copy of this Resolution and Order in the office of the Register of Deeds in and for Sanborn County, South Dakota.
