The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Winterguard team traveled to Henry Sibley High School in St. Paul, Minn., on Jan. 31 for their first competition in the North Star Circuit (NSC) Scholarship Show.
In competitions, winter guard teams are judged in the areas of talent, precision, creativity, and horizontal orchestration (how all the elements create the larger picture/effect). Performances incorporate equipment, props and dance moves. The three primary types of equipment used in winterguard are flags, rifles, and sabres; the SCW Winterguard team uses flags and rifles. The most fundamental piece of equipment in winter guard shows is the flag.
The SCW Winterguard team performed their routine to the song “Try” by Colbie Caillat, and work to express the meaning of the song with their routine. Over the last two months, the team of seven girls have put in many hours to learn the floor drills and choreography/routines. The team has eight minutes to set up with floor mat and equipment, perform their four minute show, and clear the floor of all equipment.
The team is led by Mr. Brett Kroeger, Senior Captain McKenzy Peterson, and Junior Captain Breanne Brandenburg with team members Renee Farmer, Adriana Salas, Josie Weber, Brooklyn Swenson and Megan Linke.
