Each year, Central Electric Cooperative awards three $1,000 academic scholarships to local students.
Bailey Moody of Letcher is the recipient of the Basin Electric Power Cooperative Scholarship. Bailey is the daughter of Perry and Tracy Moody. She is currently pursuing a degree in elementary and special education with a minor in reading at Dakota State University.
Karley Litterick and Aaron Linke were selected as this year’s winners of the Jay Headley Memorial Scholarships. Karley is the daughter of Steven and Holly Litterick of Howard. She plans to attend South Dakota State University for agricultural education, communication and leadership with an ag education specialization. Aaron is the son of Henry and Paula Linke of Woonsocket. Aaron plans to attend South Dakota State University for agronomy and ag science and participate in other ag-related activities while there.
The scholarships are funded by Basin Electric Power Cooperative of Bismarck, N.D., and the family of the late Jay Headley of White Lake.

BechenCatherine web 34    The Artesian American Legion Auxiliary would like to recognize Catherine Bechen as their 2017 Girls Stater. She is a junior at Sanborn Central High School and is very active in her school, 4-H, church, family farm and as a junior Auxiliary member.
Catherine will be attending Girls State at the University of South Dakota campus in Vermilion May 29-June 3.
She is the daughter of John and Gayle Bechen of Letcher.

HURON  – Callyann Wallenstein, 27, died in a one-vehicle crash Wednesday night, April 5, on Hwy 37 south of Huron in Sanborn County
Her 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe was southbound on the highway when the vehicle went off the roadway and rolled. Wallenstein was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on the scene were the Beadle County Sheriff’s Office, Sanborn County Sheriff’s Office, Alpena Fire and Rescue and the Huron Ambulance.
