Evelyn Saville, 92, of Plankinton, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at the Aurora Brule Nursing Home in White Lake.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 2, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plankinton with burial in the Mizpah Cemetery at Plankinton. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the church.
Evelyn Eileen Saville was born Oct. 9, 1924, on the family farm near Mount Sterling, Crawford County, Wis., to Torkel and Anna (Thompson) Asbenson. In 1925, at six months of age, she moved near Storla in Belford Township with her family. She attended Thompson School, Letcher High School and graduated from Hopper High School in 1941. Evelyn attended Dakota Wesleyan University and Augustana College for her teaching degree.
She married Merlyn Saville on Nov. 19, 1944, and lived and worked on the Saville family homestead northeast of Plankinton. Evelyn taught at Hopper School until 1946 and went back to teaching at the Plankinton Public School in 1966, where she taught for 21 years, retiring in 1987. She lived in Plankinton until 2009, when she moved to an assisted living home in Mitchell, and then in 2011, she moved to Aurora Brule Nursing Home in White Lake.
Evelyn was a member of the Aurora County Historical Society, the Storla Lutheran Church, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Plankinton. She enjoyed playing piano and organ, and taught piano lessons and accompanied for many of her family members on their various instruments.
She is survived by her two sons, John (Ann Harless) Saville and David (Kristi) Saville of Plankinton; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Gjesdal of Mitchell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eveyln was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merlyn in 1968; sisters, Laura Kvigne, Arlene Thompson, and Jurene Gjesdal; brother, Luverne Asbenson; daughter-in-law, Jo-lee Saville; and infant great-granddaughter, Josephine Jo-lee Saville.
Arrangements are with Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
