Loretta S. Cain, age 91, of Mitchell, died Friday, March 10, 2017, at Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston.
Visitation was Tuesday, March 14, from 6-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell. Mass of Christian Burial was 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Father John Short officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell.
Loretta was born July 25, 1925 in rural Ethan to Anthony and Margaret (Munterfering) Wermers. She was raised on the family farm and attended school at Tobin 18.
She was united in marriage with Arthur Cain on June 13, 1946 in Mitchell.  They had two boys, Norman and Thomas. Loretta started her restaurant career at Club Nemo, which later became The Brig. While working there, she was offered the opportunity to manage a cafe, which became Loretta’s Truck Haven. She managed that for over 35 years.
Loretta was known for her hard work ethic, great food and homemade pies. She and her husband also developed land southwest of Mitchell, creating Dakota Campground, which they owned for 30 years. In her retirement years, Loretta managed the concession stand at Thunder Valley Dragways. Loretta enjoyed her 12 years at the track that her son, Tom, managed. She enjoyed the the times the racers gave her hugs and called her grandma.
Loretta is survived by her daughter-in-law, Judy Cain, Sioux Falls; brothers, Alvin (Jeanette) Wermers, Woonsocket, Bob Wermers, Sioux Falls, and Don (Verla) Wermers, Middleton Wis.; three granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; sons Norman “Jackie” and Thomas; her parents; her sister, Delores; and brothers, Alfred and Norbert.
