A semi-truck hauling a double load of soybeans through Woonsocket caught fire Wednesday evening, but disaster was averted before the grain could catch fire.
Woonsocket firemen responded to a call at 8:06 p.m. Oct. 4 that a semi-truck hauling a double load of soybeans was on fire on the Highway 34 four-lane. Fireman Travis Coulthard said it appeared to be a brake problem that caused the fire, which created holes in the front of the hopper trailer from which some grained leaked out onto the road.
The fire was extinguished, and the driver was able to drive away with minimal damage. The truck was parked for the time being at Wheat Growers in Woonsocket.
