Retired superintendent of Sanborn Central High School Linda Whitney received a Distinguished Service Award from the South Dakota High School Activities Association during Friday evening’s session of the State “B” Girls Basketball Tournament in Huron.
Whitney was with the Artesian/Letcher and then Sanborn Central School District for 32 years, including 13 years as superintendent. She also served on the Board of Directors of the South Dakota Activities Association. Whitney retired in the spring of 2016.
The Distinguished Service Award was established in 1976 to recognize outstanding service to the youth of the state through various high school activities programs. Candidates are nominated by the schools with the final selection being made by the SDHSAA Board of Directors.
