Evan “Chic” Van Ginkel, 57, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Hegg Health Center in Rock Valley.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 15, at Faith Reformed Church in Rock Valley, with Rev. Mike Molenaar officiating. Burial followed at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, was Thursday, June 14, and a prayer service and time of sharing memories followed the visitation at 8 p.m., at the church.
Evan Dale “Chic” Van Ginkel, son of Everett and Clazina (Fluit) Van Ginkel, was born Feb. 26, 1961, in Sioux Center, Iowa. Chic was a graduate of Rock Valley High School.
On July 25, 1980, he was united in marriage with Debra Kooima, and together the couple raised three children: Aletha, Trista, and Travis. Chic loved working as a machinist, and in 2005, he and two partners founded Midwest Pro Manufacturing. On July 21, 2009, Chic was involved in an accident at work, which resulted in a traumatic brain injury (TBI). He continued with this battle for the last eight years.
Chic enjoyed life, was a hard worker, and always found ways to keep himself busy. His faith in God was of upmost importance to him, and he loved spending time with family, especially his grandkids. He also loved camping, fishing, hunting, wrestling and horseback riding. Chic was a member of Faith Reformed Church in Rock Valley.
Chic is survived by his wife of 37 years, Debra; three children, Aletha (Jake) Erpenbach, Trista (Ethan) Blauwet, and Travis (Courtney) Van Ginkel; nine grandchildren; his mother, Clazina Van Ginkel; eight siblings: Howard (Avonne) Van Ginkel, Joyce (David) Sipma, Charlene (Gregory) Sonne, Myron (Joni) Van Ginkel, David (LaRee) Van Ginkel, Eugene (Diane) Van Ginkel, Melinda (Mark) Kelderman, and Paul (Andrea) Van Ginkel; his father and mother-in-law, Jim and Margene Kooima; three sisters-in-law, Laura (Walt) De Vos, Brenda (Brad) De Bruin, and Karla (Chris) Krogmann; brother-in-law, Jim (Kristi) Kooima; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Everett Van Ginkel, and nephew, Luke Kelderman.
