Glen A. Northrup, 80, of Mitchell, formerly of Letcher, died Sunday, June 10, 2018, at his home under hospice care.
Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, June 14 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Visitation was Wednesday, June 13 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell with military rites.
Glen was born on Aug. 3, 1937 in Mitchell, to Clarence and Edna (Hutton) Northrup. He attended Letcher High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.
Glen married Kay Mohr on May 27, 1959, in Howard. Glen worked hard at farming and was recognized twice as S.D. Outstanding Young Farmer. After farming, he worked for Commercial Asphalt for a period of years, where he was known to all as “Cowboy.”
He loved NASCAR, hunting and fishing, and taught many generations the do’s and don’ts of fishing and lure making. Glen enjoyed playing cards and testing his luck at the casino, and especially loved spending time with his family.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Kay, of Mitchell; children, Douglas (Paula) Northrup of Letcher, Lori (Jerry) Van Den Oever of Wessington Springs, Randal (LuLu) Northrup of Woonsocket, and Merle Northrup of Mt. Vernon; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wendel and Galen Northrup; step-mother, Ruth Northrup; and grandson, Andrew Diede.
