Lois M. Fougner, 92, of Mitchell, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab.
Funeral and visitation services were held Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
Lois Maxine was born on June 7, 1927, on a farm near Storla. Her parents were William and Myrtle (Hutton) Mathis. She joined her brothers, Harold and Wilbur, and then a few years after Lois, Ernest came along making the family complete.
She attended country school for the first years, and she graduated from Letcher High School in 1945. After graduation, she moved to Mitchell with her girlfriends, working at JC Penney in the shoe department.
Lois married Howard “Buzz” Fougner on June 6, 1948. Together they were blessed with a sense of adventure, living in many different places until settling in Pontiac, Mich., where they raised their family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, playing cards, embroidery and crocheting.
After Buzz passed away from cancer, she spent time living in Arizona and South Dakota, traveling and living in different retirement communities. The last few years were spent in Mitchell.
Lois is survived by her children, Lynn (Sharon) of Rapid City; Marc (Mary) of White Lake, Mich., Del (Tula) of Mitchell, Randal (Traci) of Prescott, Ariz., Scott (Kristi) of West Fargo, N.D., and Yvonne (Mick Tscherter) of Nevada, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, as well as many friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buzz; her parents; and her brothers, Harold, Wilbur, and Ernie.
