Marvin Moore, 83, of Mitchell, died Monday, May 13, 2019, at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Woonsocket.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 16, at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation was held Wednesday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Marvin L. Moore was born March 25, 1936, in Mount Vernon to A. M. and Francis (Newton) Moore. He was raised on family farms in the Mount Vernon and the Mitchell areas. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1955.
Marvin married Donna Thurman on Feb. 5, 1956. The two lived in the Chicago area while Marvin served two years in the Army. Marvin and Donna then made their home on a farm near Loomis where they raised their two children, Bryan and Devonne.
Marvin farmed until 1976, but continued raising cattle and hay for many years. He also took on several part-time jobs, including at the Mitchell sale barn and driving truck. Upon full retirement, he enjoyed restoring his 1948 Ford, hunting, trapping and reloading ammunition.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donna; brother, Wally Moore; son, Bryan (Brenda) Moore; daughter, Devonne (Glen) Sommer; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Lannie.
