On Saturday, Feb. 9, the Wolsey-Wessington Youth Basketball Jamboree took place in Wolsey. Three gyms were set up to run the games with girls’ games played in the morning and boys’ games played in the afternoon.
The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (SCW) co-op had four teams participating in the Jamboree. The four teams included three girls’ teams. One made up of third and fourth graders, one from the fifth grade and one of sixth graders. The boys’ team was made up of third and fourth graders.
The third/fourth grade teams each played three games. The SCW boys played against teams from Redfield, James Valley Christian and Wessington Springs. The SCW girls’ third/fourth grade team played two games against Wessington Springs and one game against Wolsey-Wessington. The kids gained great experience in play and teamwork during the Jamboree.
The SCW fifth grade and sixth grade girls’ basketball teams each played two games during the Wolsey-Wessington Youth Basketball Jamboree. The SCW fifth grade team began their tournament play against Huron’s Triple Threat (fourth) team followed by their final game against Wessington Springs’ fifth/sixth grade team. The girls went 2-0 for the tournament. The fifth grade team plays again on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 7:15 p.m. in the Mitchell Rec Center against the Mitchell Sparks as part of the Girls Traveling Basketball League.
The SCW sixth grade basketball team played their first game against Wessington Springs, and their second game was against Wolsey-Wessington. The girls went 2-0 in the tournament. The sixth grade team plays again on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. in the Mitchell Rec Center against Mt. Vernon/Plankinton as part of the Girls Traveling Basketball League.
