Game one of the state tournament saw Wessington Springs facing Parkston. The game was low scoring and a pitcher’s duel. Parkston scored one run in the third inning, one run in the fifth, and one in the sixth. Wessington Springs’ lone run came in the sixth inning. Wessington Springs outhit Parkston 9-5, but just could not put together any timely hits. Wessington Springs left 10 runners on base in the game. Coen Harvey took the loss going five and two-thirds innings and giving up only three hits while striking out six. He was relieved by Cayden Slykhuis and Mason Schelske. Leading hitters for Wessington Springs in game one were Clay Olinger and Cayden Slykhuis each with two hits. The loss moved Wessington Springs into the consolation bracket.
