After 13 surgeries in 18 years, David Brown, 46, of Woonsocket, found himself addicted to opioids and in a very dark place in his life. He had lost everything that was important to him, and if he didn’t make a drastic change, he was going to end up losing his life. His story and his recovery is what made him a perfect candidate for South Dakota’s Avoid Opioid campaign that was created by the South Dakota Department of Health. He has been in commercials on TV and he travels around the state to speak at forums with Angela Kennecke and others about the terrible effects that opioid abuse and addiction have on someone’s life.
