Alvin Wermers, 85, of Mitchell, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at Prairie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket.
Funeral services were Saturday, Aug. 12, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Visitation was Friday, Aug. 11, at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
Alvin Lawrence Wermers was born July 7, 1932, on the family farm west of Ethan, to Anthony and Margaret (Muntefering) Wermers. He attended Notre Dame School and graduated from Letcher High School.
He married Janette Metzger on Nov. 15, 1952, in Mitchell. He was employed with Metz Baking Company for 34 years, until his retirement in 1993.
Alvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Janette; daughter, Cindee (Richard) Westendorf; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob Wermers and Don (Verla) Wermers; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy Wermers; grandson, Christopher Wermers; sisters, Delores (Wermers) Hanson and Loretta (Wermers) Cain; and brothers, Alfred Wermers and Norbert Wermers.
