John “Jack” Mann, 88, of Woonsocket and formerly of Coon Rapids, Minn., passed away Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, at Prairie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket, with Fr. Jim Friedrich officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 31, from 6-8 p.m., with a rosary prior to the 7 p.m. prayer service, also at the church.

Jack was born June 21, 1929, and was the adopted son of Don and Lela Mann. He graduated from Anoka High School in 1948, and was a student of the University of Minnesota. He served in the army for 21 months during the Korean War.

Jack married Delores Canton on Nov. 24, 1951, at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Minneapolis, Minn. He was a manufacturing engineer and worked for FMC Corporation, Naval Ordnance Division for 37 and one half years. He specialized in gears and designed the gears for large turrets on the naval gunships. Upon retirement, the couple moved to Woonsocket, where they built a home and have lived for the past 26 years.

Jack was a member of the Four Seasons Camper Club, Coon Rapids High School Band Boosters, Saint Timothy’s Men’s Club, Model Airplane Club, FMC Skeet and Trap Shooters Club and Toastmasters International. He served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in both Minnesota and Woonsocket, was a member of the 4th Degree Team and the Marching Unit, and served as District Deputy and Faithful Navigator.

Jack is survived by his wife, Delores of Woonsocket; two sons, Donald (Brenda) of Huron, and David of Woonsocket; two daughters, Theresa (Jeff) Leadens of Soldotna, Alaska, and Jacqueline (Brock) Aspelin of Onida; step sister, Cheryl Herin of Hesperia, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step brother-in-law, Randy (Cheryl) Herin; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Charlotte Canton.

Arrangements were with Basham Funeral Service in Woonsocket.
