Sanborn Central holds business plan competition

The Sanborn Central Economics Class had their inaugural business plan competition on Dec. 14.  Six teams (five partnerships and one sole proprietorship) presented their detailed business plans and financial reports to a panel of area judges consisting of Cory Mohling, Barry Selland, and Vickie Fox, whom all have experience in a business related field.

Students spent over three weeks developing a business/product with the intention of making the most realistic plan, while also making a profit. Businesses ranged from a weight-training app, a tutoring service, hired hands services, and a few providing services for children.

Tory Reinders and Lucy Nicholson won the competition with their business “Friday & Saturday Sitters.” The plan provided in-home daycare services for parents wanting to get away for the evening in the Mitchell area. Their business would run from 6-11 p.m. on weekend nights when parents struggle to find babysitters. Congratulations to all competitors, and special thanks to the judges that volunteered their time.
