The next few days are huge ones for the local Blackhawks basketball teams and fans and include the 281 Tournament and girls Hanson Classic.
Following a Tuesday, Jan. 12 doubleheader in Kimball, the boys are back on the road Thursday as they travel to Huron to meet with James Valley Christian.
After Tuesday’s doubleheader, the girls begin 281 Tournament play on Friday, Jan. 15 as they face Iroquois at 3:30 p.m. in Wolsey. The following day, the girls team travels to the Mitchell Corn Palace, where they have been matched up with Viborg-Hurley for a 1:30 p.m. contest in the Hanson Classic.
Also on Saturday, the Blackhawk boys begin their 281 Tournament, also against Iroquois, at 5:30 p.m. in Wolsey. The girls and boys continue their respective tournaments, Jan. 18 and 19 in Huron, and both finish off the Tourney on Thursday, Jan. 21, also in the Huron Arena.
The girls fell to fifth place in the rankings this week, following their second loss of the season to Warner, while the boys team remains solidly in third place in the Sportswriters Association Polls.
The Blackhawk boys are 5-0 and hold onto two first place votes and 20 power points, behind White River at 6-1 and 25 power points in second, and Warner at 7-0, 33 power points and five first place votes.
