The 14 and under Venom Sting defeated the Pierre Pride in the C division championship game of the 2016 South Dakota ASA State Fast Pitch Tournament held in Sioux Falls this past weekend.
The game ended in the fourth inning with a score of 19-3, and earned the first ever State Championship ever for the Venom organization.
In a statement from the coaching staff (Quentin Thompson, Eric Klooz and Tyson Schulz), “We are so proud of these young players. As a first-year 14 and under team, with six girls young enough to play 12 and under, we are simply amazed at what they have accomplished.”
Two of their six wins in the tournament came in extra innings, and late Saturday night, the team found themselves down 8-1 against a very experienced Madison Force team. Rallying in the final two innings, the game was finally decided after going into the first extra-inning.
Team member Shyla Tobin is the granddaughter of Bernard and Irene Olinger of Woonsocket and her teammate, Kyla Amick is the granddaughter of Chuck and Jane Amick of Letcher.
