Woonsocket eighth grade shows volcano projects

As the end of the 2016-17 school year fast approaches, students in eighth grade Earth Science class at Woonsocket School wrapped up their unit on the dynamic earth, plate tectonics and volcanoes.
Throughout the unit, students learned how plate tectonics have reshaped the Earth and created many of the land features we see around the world today.  The last part of the unit included learning how and where volcanoes form.  To add to the unit, the students researched a particular volcano of interest and found how it has affected the world when it has erupted.
In addition to just researching their volcano, they had the opportunity to construct models of their volcano, which were set off during class last Friday. Students used a variety of building material, including homemade dough, spray foam, dirt and paper maché, to build their volcanos.
The popular choices for eruptions were Coke and Mentos or vinegar and baking soda. The volcanos all erupted as expected and were a great success!
