4-H

These kids are not for sale. It’s actually the wood chips they are sitting on that are not for sale, but they look like they are enjoying the view from atop the pile. Pictured from left to right are Bailey Feistner, Henry Feistner, Shiloh Senska, Memphis Moody, Tyann Eddy and Summer Senska.

One of the highlights of the Sanborn County Achievement Days is the Ag Olympics that were added to the lineup of events just a few years ago and have become more popular every year. This year’s Olympic events included bale rolling, leaky bucket water relay, a frozen T-shirt contest (they had frozen T-shirts tied together, and they had to untie the shirts and put them on), a goat chase to remove a tie from his tail and a relay where team members were strapped to boards before needing to race together as a group to one end of the arena and back.

The Cloverbuds had their own Olympic events, including stickhorse races and chasing a smaller goat around the arena to remove a tie from his tail.

Considering the Sanborn County Achievement Days just took place this past weekend, Aug. 5-7, and they were packed full with events and entries, results were not available at press time of this issue. Please stay tuned to next week’s edition for results and more photos.

On Monday, Aug. 2, the Woonsocket City Summer Rec Program held their end of summer party for the softball and baseball players, coaches and parents with a cookout and awards ceremony at Lake Prior. Coach Armando Rodriguez welcomed everyone to the gathering and remarked on the successes that each team had throughout the season before handing out the awards. This year’s awards honored three players from each team’s age group with Most Valuable Player (MVP), Most Improved Player (MIP) and the Ace Award for the individual who displayed hard work and a positive attitude all season. The awardees received a t-shirt in honor of their achievement.

The Town ‘N Kountry Kids Blue Group met on Monday, Aug. 2, at the Letcher Community Center. Twenty-seven members were present for the meeting. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Delaney Zoss. The pledges were led by Cain Zoss and Ramsey Fouberg. Roll call was completed by Shay Bechen. The secretary’s report was read by Janet Maechen and approved. Payton Uecker gave the treasurer’s report, Teagen Moody made a motion to approve, and it was seconded by Ramsey Fouberg.

Old Business:

Kelly Wilson reported on how the eye glass collection boxes did, and they will be turned into the office now.

Denny Fouberg will be spraying the weeds in the park between the community center and Jake’s Lounge.

New Business:

Janet brought up the new exhibit form that will be required for static exhibits for the county and state fairs.  There will be a four entry limit at the state fair on static exhibits. The new form can be found online.

Janet reviewed the interview process. Members are limited to four interview-judged items at the county level. Several members role played with Janet. This practice was used as an example to members on how to answer questions when interviewing with the judge.

The work schedule for Achievement Days will be coming out soon.

The group discussed purchasing a new projector for use in the community center. Tiffany Hoffman shared that the Letcher Community Group is also looking at purchasing a new Smart TV.  This discussion was tabled until a decision is made by the Letcher Community Group.

The club is responsible for the lunch stand on Saturday during Achievement Days from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
