4-H

The Town ‘N Kountry Kids Red Crew 4-H Club met on Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Community Center in Woonsocket.

The meeting was called to order by President Xavier Baysinger. The Flag Pledge was led by Emmitt Feistner, and the 4-H Pledge was led by Elisha Schultz.

Roll call was led by Vice President Bailey Feistner with the topic, “What Was Your Favorite State Fair Project?” which was answered by 19 members.

Xavier Baysinger and Megan Linke presented officer training, explaining to members the different parts of a meeting, when a motion and vote is needed, and how to be recognized for a motion.

The secretary’s report was read by Megan Linke and approved as presented.

Members had reports on all the activities from the last two months as follows:  State Horse Show – Bailey Feistner; Spotlight Show – Tyson Eddy; Achievement Days – Sutton Senska, Lane Burkel, Luke Larson, Megan Linke, Bailey Feistner, Tyson Eddy and Ty Burkel; State Dog Show – Avery Miller, State Fair – Hope Baysinger, Shiloh Senska, Emmitt Feistner, Elisha Schultz, Isaiah Schultz, and Avery Miller.

For old business, club members noted that they need to schedule a date for a visit to the Wessington Springs nursing home and delay their cleaning ditches project to next spring or summer.

Under new business, the club talked about record books. Newspaper clippings were passed out, and they talked about what else 4-H members need to get done like writing their personal story.

The club discussed planning for National 4-H Week. It is the same week as Homecoming activities, so they decided to do the 4-H Week activities a week later. The group decided to do an assembly and present some of our 4-H projects. They will work on coordinating this with the school through Student Council President Megan Linke.

Ideas for a 4-H Club Fun Day were talked about. Members were asked to think about what they would like to do. This will be discussed at the next couple of meetings.

Shooting Sports Awards Night is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 12 and Recognition Event will be in November.

Members have been asked to set barrels for the SD Heartland Barrel Race Oct. 25-27.  Leader Paula Linke will e-mail out a tentative schedule to get filled.

Members were told about the 4-H Scholarship that is available to apply for following high school graduation.

Following the meeting, Isaiah Schultz presented a demonstration on making origami. Emmitt Feistner gave an illustrated talk on Combine Parts and Safety. Elisha Schultz shared an illustrated talk on Larry Fitzgerald, NFL football player.

The next meeting is Saturday, Sept. 21, at 9 a.m. at the Woonsocket Community Center.
