Artesian

On Tuesday evening, June 25, the Artesian First Lutheran Quilters and circle gals met at the church.

The agenda began with the business meeting.  It was reported that Jim Gorter had received Thrivent Action monies that were used to purchase Hot Stuff pizzas that were sold as a fundraiser for future youth church campers.

Deanna Dean and Judi Larson also received Thrivent Action monies that were used to purchase needed items for the newborn kits and hospice kits that are being assembled for Global Health Ministries in Minneapolis. The group will also send the regular and baby size kits that are completed.  All items will be taken to Brookings on July 25 to meet a bus that will take them to Minneapolis.

The group was encouraged to attend “Muffin Mornings” that Marti Knudsen is hosting at the parsonage on July 13 and 27, and Aug. 3, 24 and 31.

The Bible study “As Good as His Word—God, who cannot lie” was led by Judy Wormstadt.  The group sang the table blessing and prayed the Lord’s Prayer.  A delicious fresh strawberry dessert was served by Wanda Effling. Wanda also made a donation to the group from her mom’s memorials, which was very much appreciated. The rest of the evening was spent working on quilts. Those in attendance were: Judi Larson, Deanna Dean, Jean Wormstadt, Wanda Effling, and Judy Wormstadt.

Over the Memorial Day holiday, the members of the Artesian American Legion Jackson Hall Unit 47 noticed that a ceremonial rifle they use was missing from their gun locker. The rifle that was stolen is a Springfield 1903 model bolt action 30-06 that the unit uses for honor purposes. The stolen rifle is actually property of the United States Military and is only on loan to the Artesian Legion.

The theft is under investigation by the Sanborn County Sheriff’s Office. If anyone has any information about this crime, please contact the Sheriff’s Office at 796-4511.
