Abby Vermeulen, a Sanborn Central senior, traveled to Sioux Falls on March 27 to attend the 12th annual Cure Kids Cancer Radiothon. The event is sponsored by Sanford Children’s Hospital, Results Radio, and Jerry’s Auto Sales. Vermeulen was accompanied by Kevin and Lynette Kingsbury and Tatem Effling. They participated in the event by answering the phone calls of those desiring to make pledges. The event was held from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday.  

Cure Kids Cancer is a program affiliated with Children’s Miracle Network. Sanford Children’s Hospital joined the network in 1986. The fundraiser collects money for cancer research and to help families with children fighting cancer. All money donated stays local. More than $367,000 was raised.

ELK POINT – Chad Kempf has joined Liberty National Bank in Elk Point as a Vice President of Agricultural/Commercial Loan Officer.

A native of Artesian and University of South Dakota graduate, he works with farmers/producers and his other business customers to create a true relationship to help them succeed.  Kempf is responsible for agriculture lending, commercial lending, and maintaining relationships with customers.

For the past seven years, Chad Kempf has been analyzing credits and finding solutions for farmers, producers, and companies worldwide as a credit analyst for POET Nutrition, Inc.   Poet Nutrition, Inc. is a subsidiary of Poet, LLC, which markets five million tons of distiller grains animal feed and 600 million pounds of corn oil from production as one of the world’s largest ethanol producers.

“Chad’s joining our office is a crucial step in our continuing our position as THE ag lender in the area,” said senior vice president for agriculture lending Terry Utech.  “His knowledge of the area and long history of client-focused service are invaluable,” added Utech.

Under the leadership of Rachelle and Pam Moore, members of Artesian First Lutheran and the Artesian community gathered monetary donations and items needed by the victims of the Niobrara, Neb., floods.

Nearly $1,500 and an extended cab pickup back seat and pickup box full of items were donated. Items gathered were: disposable sanitizing wipes, heavy rubber gloves, cleaning solutions and supplies, bottled water, homemade cookies, coffee, personal care items, paper towels, toilet paper, Thrivent t-shirts, towels, blankets, and 10 full-sized quilts and two baby quilts made by the First Lutheran Quilters.
