Artesian

Following the 8 a.m. worship service at Artesian First Lutheran on Aug. 12, a group of ambitious members unloaded bags of rocks for the landscaping at the church and spread the rocks where they were needed. Deanna Dean had obtained Thrivent Action Monies for the project. Afterwards, the group enjoyed lunch and fellowship.

The Marion and Deanna Dean family and extended family’s annual camping trip for 2018 at Snake Creek Campground was another wonderful weekend. We spent the time eating, swimming, playing in the sun, competing in a bean bag contest and jet skiing. On Saturday evening we lost electricity for three hours in the campground and it was rather warm out. Before it came back on at 10 p.m. we were all wondering if campers would be a little cool. We camped here 18 years ago and they had a tornado. A little scary. But all in all a fun time was had by all.

First Lutheran and area women met at the church starting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, for Bible Study and quilting. Those who attended for all or part of the evening included:  Judi Larson, Deanna Dean, Judy Wormstadt, Jess Ludvik, Wanda Effling, Jean Wormstadt, Terry Moore, and Jerolyn Dean.

A short business meeting was held. Judy and Deanna reported on the tour of the Abbott House on July 10th.  Those who toured the facility were: Deanna Dean, Judy Olson, Wanda Effling, Judi Larson, Kathy Wormstadt and Judy Wormstadt.   They were impressed with the work being done there to help young girls.  The women’s group is sending a monetary donation. There is a benefactor who is matching the 2018 donations, so this doubles the amount we have given.  If others are interested in making personal donations this would be an especially good time to do that considering the matching funds that are available.

The quilt for the Lutheran Outdoors quilt auction is complete and Judy explained the online auction process that is being implemented this year.  The quilt will be on display at the Sanborn County Achievement Days.  A starting bid of $275 was set as the base price.

WWTS (Walking With the Savior) youth group will resume on Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Artesian First Lutheran. All area youth, ages kindergarten through sixth grade, are welcome to attend. Judy Wormstadt and Wanda Effling will be heading up the program and additional volunteers are needed to help at the weekly sessions and to furnish snacks. Thank you so much to both Judy and Wanda. This is important work and a huge time commitment on their part.

The Snack Pack program will continue this fall.  More information will be coming as to what we can do to help.  The ladies are currently gathering items for the School Kits and the Baby Care, Personal Care, and Fabric kits.  The list of items needed for each type of kit is available at the church.

Jerolyn Dean led the study titled “Let Us Pray” from the Gather magazine and based on 1 Samuel 12: 12-23.

Following the Lord’s Prayer and singing the table blessing, Jerolyn Dean and Terry Moore provided lunch.

The remainder of the evening was spent working on quilts in various stages of completion.
