Since the start of our nation with President George Washington, every military member has taken an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. The oath is administered upon joining the armed services and upon promotion. In 1977, Karen (Ferwerda) Klinkner and her twin sister, Kendra, took this oath and became officers in the U.S. Army. They were a part of the second class to allow women to be commissioned in the Army. A generation later, in 2005 and 2008, respectively, Karen administered this same oath to her daughters, Diane and Kristen, as they graduated college and joined the Army and the Air Force.  Diane graduated from Artesian-Letcher High School in 2001 and Kristen in 2003.

President Karen Klinkner opened the meeting. There were a couple of bills handed in.

The Unit has met their membership goal.

Congratulations to Catherine Bechen on receiving the Auxiliary Scholarship for 2018, and congratulations to Amber Schelske for winning a cash award for her essay that was sent to the District contest.

Plans were made for the Memorial Day lunch.  The Auxiliary members will furnish bars and coffee. The Memorial Day Service is on Monday, May 28, at 1:30 p.m. at the Artesian Community Center.

On Saturday, May 26, the Auxiliary members will be placing poppies in remembrance of past Auxiliary members. They will meet at 9 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

The Auxiliary made four red, white and blue wreaths for the cemetery, which will be placed by the statues. This project was made possible by a donation in memory of Eric Olson.

The meeting was adjourned by President Klinkner.
