Letcher

During the nighttime hours of Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, March 27 and 28, Buckshots in Letcher was burglarized. The thieves entered through a side window and stole cash from the till, along with chewing tobacco, cigarettes and candy.

The total loss to the business was approximately $650 in merchandise, cash and property damage.

According to Tom Fridley, Sanborn County Sheriff, there are currently no leads or suspects. If anyone has any knowledge about this crime or who may have been involved, they should contact the Sanborn County Sheriff’s office at 796-4511.

The Mitchell Tigers basketball team earned bronze medals in their division at the Special Olympics basketball tournament held in Mitchell over the weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25, 820 athletes on 74 different teams from 25 delegations from across the state, participated in the Special Olympics basketball tournament in Mitchell.

Three local graduates played for the Mitchell Tigers team, and they earned bronze medals for placing third in their division. Those participating for the Tigers were: Ian Ames, Kyle Clarambeau and Matthew Baysinger. Another team member for the Mitchell Tigers, who has ties to the Woonsocket community, is Tayler Reichelt and the team’s coach, Cody Reichelt, Tayler’s brother. The Reichelt boys are the sons of Ann (Hinker) Reichelt.

Rod Clarambeau of Letcher coached the Mitchell Outlaws team, who also earned a bronze medal for third place in their division, and his daughter, Shana (Clarambeau) Jensen played for that team as a Unified Partner.

A large crowd attended the celebration of Donald Moe’s “90th” birthday party at the Letcher Community Center on March 11. Attending were his sister, Shirley Drewery and her family; sons, Chester Allen, John and Gary Drewery of Oxford, Miss.; daughters, Judy and Tommy Leeton of Batesville, Miss., Betty Groner of Oxford, Janice and Jerry, Jay McGregor of Oxford, and Darlene Bryant of Hernia, Va.; Ronald Moe’s  children, Leslie Moe of Portland, Ore., and Christina Moe of Kirk, Colo.

Other family attending were: Margaret Adel of Lake Andes, Kevin Adel of Sioux Falls, Carolyn McNam and daughter, Brenda, of Flandreau, Ganette Rush and daughter, Sally, of Flandreau, David and Gary Gossel of Kimball, Barb and daughter, Caitlyn Hemmelman, of Pierre, Dianne Willey of Gettysburg, Jeff Lecher of Madison, April and Bryon Jennings, Cody and Tara Callee and Jackson Strand of Mitchell; Donald and Edith’s children, Roger, Richard and Dawn, Virginia, and grandchild, Rae, and great-grandchild Logan, all of Mitchell, and many, many friends.
