Maurice Jamison

Rapid City

Maurice Edward Jamison, 92, passed away Oct. 4, 2018, at the Rapid City Hospice House.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Piedmont. A Masonic and memorial service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. The burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Memorials may be directed to El Riad Shriners and online condolences may be signed at kirkfuneralhome.com.

Maurice was born on July 1, 1926, to Harland and Silva (Pence) Jamison in Letcher. He graduated from Letcher High School in 1944.

On Dec. 23, 1946, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Harper. They had two daughters together, Sandy and Jackie. His first wife, Dorothy, preceded him in death in 1973. Maurice worked for Burns Lumber Company from 1946-1975, and then owned Jamison-Mueller Lumber Company until 1981. Maurice was a proud Mason since 1949, as well as a Shriner since 1975.

On Dec. 29, 1983, Maurice and Rose Piklapp were united in marriage. They worked together building Future Homes Inc., designing and building custom homes. Then he started building motels, expanding over a nine-state region. Maurice and Rose worked together until their retirement in 1998, when they moved to the Black Hills. Maurice never really retired, though, doing consulting work and even working at a casino until the age of 90.

He is survived by his wife, Rose; daughter, Jackie Olson; stepdaughter, Trish (Henry) Guerrero; sister, Gretchen (Perry) Strombeck; brother, Harley (Sharon) Jamison; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, Harland and Silva; wife, Dorothy; brothers, Bob and Bill; daughter, Sandy; stepson, Mark; and two sons-in-law, Jim and Charlie.

Thomas Steichen

Albuquerque, N.M.

Thomas Nicholas Steichen, 82, formerly of Woonsocket, died Sept. 22, 2018, due to heart complications.

A memorial service was held on Sept. 29 at Daniel’s Family Funeral Services in the Wyoming Chapel in Albuquerque, N.M. The service was followed by inurnment at Sandia Memory Gardens. A gathering at Papa Felipe’s to celebrate Thomas’ life followed the inurnment.

Thomas was born on June 14, 1936 in Woonsocket to Nicholas and Frances Steichen. He grew up on their family’s farm as the youngest of eight children: Carl, Lucy, Bernard, Leonard, Edward, Harry and Margaret. He attended Woonsocket High School where he fell in love with Betty Vallen.

Upon graduation, in 1955, Thomas joined the army and served in the Korean War as an artillery gunner. After his two years of service, he returned to Woonsocket. He married Betty on Sept. 2 1957. 

Thomas worked in the printing business as an editor and publisher for various newspapers in South Dakota. In 1968, he and his family moved to Farmington, N.M., where he worked at the Farmington Daily Times until he began his career in real estate in 1972. He opened his own business, Steichen Realty, and worked for multiple real estate companies throughout New Mexico until he retired. In retirement, he worked as a crossing guard at Double Eagle Elementary until his death. He was affectionately known as “Mr. Tom” and was famous for bringing candy for every child on the holidays.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; brother, Leonard; three sons, Craig, Brian and Keith; and three grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family would prefer donations to the American Heart Association.

Douglas D. Pullman, 67, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018, at the Prairie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket.

The visitation and memorial service were held on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with military honors by the Huron Veteran’s Council. Burial will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis at a later date.

Douglas Dale Pullman was born on May 8, 1951 in Huron to Ruben and Darlene (Kleindl) Pullman. He grew up in Huron and attended Huron schools. He was in the Army and served during the Vietnam War where he received his GED. Doug worked construction and was a beekeeper for Jim Griffith.

Doug is survived by his parents, Ruben and Darlene Pullman, of Huron; his children, Markus (Cara Davies) Pullman, of Watertown and Lisa Hoffman, of De Smet; seven grandchildren; brother, Wayne Pullman, of Huron; sisters, Carol Tschetter and Jean (Gary Heath) Pullman, of Huron, and May (Tom) McMillan, of Garden City; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and aunts and uncles.
