Archie Crandall

Nampa, Idaho

Archie Edward Crandall, 93, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018.

His funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Nampa First Church of the Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho.

Archie was born Oct. 20, 1924 in Artesian. There were eight boys in the family, Glen, Chester, Raymond, Eugene, Wayne, Archie and Harold. John had died in infancy. Archie attended a nearby neighborhood school that was built on land granted by his great-grandfather.

He met Alice Marie Dahl in Carthage, and they were married on his 21st birthday on Oct. 20, 1945. They lived on the family farm. Their family grew by adding four children, Judy, Gary, Joyce and Greg.

They moved to Nampa, Idaho in 1952. Archie worked on the railroad for a short time before studying office machine repair. He was office manager and service technician for Kalbus Office Supply for 47 years. After the store closed, he ran the shop from home. 

He is survived by his wife, Alice; his four children, Judy (Larry) Kelley, Gary (Donna) Crandall, Joyce Jones, and Greg (Chandrina) Crandall; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Larry Marchand

Blue Earth, Minn.

Larry Lee Marchand, 58, of Blue Earth, Minn., and formerly of Britt, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Celebration of life service for Larry Marchand will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, at the United Methodist Church, 215 Summit Avenue in Crystal Lake, with Pastor Les Green officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6, from 5-7 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Home in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Larry Lee was born on Oct. 20, 1959, to Donald and Leona (Blank) Marchand in Britt, Iowa. He attended school in Kanawha and graduated from Woden-Crystal Lake High School with the Class of 1978.  He then attended NIACC and graduated with his Associates Degree in 1980. He transferred to Iowa State to complete his Bachelor’s degree in Horticultural Science in 1982. Larry then took his education and moved to New Orleans, La., and started his career at Banning Nursery. Later, hlater moved to Garden Spot. Both were family owned, and the families took Larry in as one of their own. Larry delighted in showing the culture, sights and tastes of New Orleans to all who visited, as well as talking about local celebrity chefs he landscaped for.

In 2016, Larry moved to Blue Earth, Minn., to be closer to family.

Larry is survived by his siblings,  Patty (Jack) Tucker of Johnson, Kan., Mary Jo (Cliff) Post of Blue Earth, Minn., Judy Marchand of Sioux Falls, Dean Marchand of Fredrick, Colo., Brian (Catherine) Sorenson of Guttenburg, Iowa, LaMae (Lindy) Peterson of Woonsocket, Gail (Vance) Vander Ploeg of Greybull, Wyo., and Brad (Julie)  Sorenson of Woden, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Don Marchand, Leona Sorenson, and Kenneth Sorenson; and brother, Patrick Marchand.

Judith Whitepipe, 74, of Gregory, passed away on Sept. 1, 2018, after a long struggle with congestive heart failure and cardiomyopathy.

Visitation and prayer service were held Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the Berean Church in Gregory. The funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the Berean Church in Gregory. Burial followed at the Hillview Cemetery in Dallas.

Judith K. (Leonard) Whitepipe was born Feb. 4, 1944, to John and Sylvia (Micanek) Leonard, Sr., in Burke.

Judie grew up on a farm southeast of Lucas. She went to elementary school at the Leonard School one-room schoolhouse near Lucas. She attended high school in Burke until she met her first husband, Richard Crouch. To this union, one son, Tim, was born.

After her divorce, Judith moved back home and graduated from Gregory High School. She moved to Mitchell after graduation and completed nurse’s training as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the Methodist Hospital. While living in Mitchell, Judie had her second child, her oldest daughter, Carrie.

Judie moved back to Gregory and started her career as an LPN at the Rosebud Nursing Home. She then met her second husband, Elmer Whitepipe. They were married on Jan. 23, 1971. With Elmer, Judie had her third child, Suzanne.

In 1987, Judie and Elmer took in their grandchildren, Jennifer and John, and raised them as their own. They raised their family in Gregory until moving to Dallas in 1990. Judie lived in their home until 2015, when she moved to an apartment in Gregory due to her heart condition.

Judie was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in July 1996, which led her to retire from nursing after 25 years at the Rosebud Nursing Home. Once her health stabilized, she volunteered at the school, church and the Wear ‘N Wears Thrift Store. She also worked as the Dallas City Finance Officer for many years.

Judith was a member of the Berean Fundamentalist Church in Gregory. She attended Bible study regularly and enjoyed playing cards and taking shopping trips with her friends.

Judie’s greatest source of pride and joy were her grandchildren, and she loved spending time with them.

Judie is survived by her daughters, Carrie (Jeff) Howard of Woonsocket, Suzanne (Jim) Kahler of Plankinton, and Jennifer (Jason) Knight of Three Rivers, Mich.; her son, John Crouch of Constantine, Mich.; eight grandchildren; her brother, John (Cheryl) Leonard, Jr.; her sisters-in-law, Lillian Middlesworth and Gayle Whitepipe; her brothers-in-law, Gary Whitepipe and Bryan Whitepipe; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; her mother- and father-in-law, Lorraine and Charles Whitepipe, Sr.; her brothers-in-law, Wayne Middlesworth and Charles Whitepipe, Jr.; and her son, Tim.
