Joanne Friedrick

Mitchell

Joanne Friedrick, 82, of Mitchell, died Thursday, July 19, 2018, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. 

Funeral services were Monday morning, July 23, at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial was in the Silver Creek Cemetery at rural Forestburg. Visitation was Sunday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Joanne Joyce Friedrick was born Aug. 25, 1935, in Oakland, Calif., to Andy and Maryann (Jarabek) Anderson.  Her family moved to Mitchell in 1944. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1953, and she received a teaching certificate from Dakota Wesleyan in 1955. She taught school in Hot Springs and Granite Falls, Minn.

On June 24, 1957, Joanne married Frank (Jim) Friedrick, and they were married for 61 years.

She enjoyed bowling and playing Bunco and Pinochle. She was fond of collecting antiques, going to auctions, garage sales and Goodwill, amassing numerous collections. 

Joanne worked at Jill’s Children Wear and Mitchell Lunch Program for over 10 years.  

She is survived by her husband, Frank of Mitchell; three sons, Rod of Mitchell, Scott (Jacque) of Sheridan, Wyo., and Bart of Volga; one grandson; one sister, Cheri Edwards of Florence, Ore., and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Clarence Wendell Stratman, 86, of Mitchell, formerly of Artesian, died Monday, July 16, 2018 at Firesteel Health Care Community.

Visitation and funeral services were held Wednesday, July 18, at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial was in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Artesian.

Clarence W. Stratman, son of Alben and Caroline (Koch) Stratman was born January 31, 1932 in Wessington. He lived in the Artesian area.

He was united in marriage to Martha (Schmit) Stratman at St. Charles Catholic Church in Artesian.

Clarence farmed south of Artesian. After his parents died, he moved to Mitchell, where Clarence was a handyman. He was also employed as a custodian at Holy Family and Holy Spirit Catholic Churches and the theater.

Clarence is survived by two sisters, Freida Stratman and Sister Armella Stratman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; parents; a sister, Melanie; and two brothers, Lawrence and Edmund.

Agnes Ketcham

Woonsocket

Agnes Elizabeth Ketcham, 98, of Woonsocket, formerly of Howard, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Prairie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket.

Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, July 17, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Artesian. Burial was in Pleasantview Cemetery at Carthage. Visitation was Monday, July 16, with family present, at Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard.

Agnes Elizabeth Ketcham was born October 10, 1919, at Brooklyn, N.Y., to John and Kathrine (Fischer) Maier. She graduated from Lindenhurst High School in 1938.

She was united in marriage to Clinton Ketcham August 24, 1942. She was a lifetime member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. 

In 2005, due to health problems she moved to Durham, N.C., and lived with her son, Clinton until 2012. This is when she moved to Howard, becoming a resident of Whispering Winds Assisted Living and later becoming a resident of Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket in 2014.

She is survived by her children, Kathy (Shorty) Faber, Clinton (Ellen) Ketcham and Harold (Clare) Ketcham; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and brothers John, Joseph, Eugene and Albert.
