Marvin Jensen

North Platte

Marvin Keith Jensen, 77, of North Platte, passed away May 24, at Stapleton, Neb.

Services were on Wednesday, May 30, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Robin Storer officiating. Burial is Thursday, May 31, at 3 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. 

Marvin was born April 14, 1941, to Cornish and Dorothy (Brown) Jensen at Ellsworth, Kan. They moved to Woonsocket when he was three, where he attended school and graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1959.

Marvin married Michele Authier of Woonsocket where they lived until 1965, when they moved to California. He and his family lived in Simi Valley, California from 1965 to 1972, where he worked for Vangas Propane Company as a serviceman and route supervisor. He also attended Moorpark City College at night for business management and also completed a service correspondence course.

In 1972, Marvin and his family moved to Aberdeen, where he went to work for Northwestern Public Service Company in the service department. In 1974, he and his family transferred to North Platte, Neb., where he retired as construction foreman for Northwestern Public Service on Jan. 1, 2000.

Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and being with his children and great grandchildren. His family was always top priority.

He is survived by: two sons, Jeffrey (Danine) of Sioux Falls and Clint (Jennifer) of North Platte; six grandchildren; one brother, Gary (Lynn) Jensen of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Betty (Roger) Blankenship of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Ada (Ciiff) Alt of Fresno, Calif.; six great-grandchildren; nine nephews and one niece.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Michele; his parents; brother, Maurice; grandparents and one nephew.

Melvin Baumgart

Wessington Springs

Melvin A. Baumgart 78, of Wessington Springs, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018, in the ER at the Avera Weskota Memorial Medical Center in Wessington Springs.

The Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 25, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wessington Springs with Fr. Jim Friedrich officiating. Visitation was Thursday at the church, with a scripture service. Interment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery. 

Melvin was born Jan. 15, 1940, in Stickney, the son of August and Alice (Dickson) Baumgart. He married Judy May Sprague on Nov. 7, 1958, in Mitchell. This year they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Melvin and Judy lived several places early in their marriage when Melvin was employed as a truck driver.  They settled down on a farm near Alpena in 1970 where Melvin and Judy farmed until they retired and then moved to Wessington Springs.

Melvin was an avid conversationalist and enjoyed visiting with everyone. He loved to go fishing with his brothers and family. Melvin had a love for horses and rode whenever he could in the 4th of July parade and on trail rides in Wessington Springs.  In his early years, Melvin enjoyed playing his guitar and singing with his family.  Family was very important to him.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Judy; sons, Donald Baumgart of Alpena and Jeffrey (Jaleen) Baumgart of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughters, Brenda Baumgart (Brent) of Sioux Falls and Carmen (Brad) Hillman of Baltic; sisters, Irene Hohn and Karen Berg; brothers, Denny, DeWayne (Wink), and Dale Baumgart; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Melvin is preceded in death by his son, Randy; parents; brother, Leonard Baumgart; and sisters, Dee Smith, Rosella Nielson, Ruthie Spitzer, Verna Stindtman, Betty Kurtenbach, and Sharon Kendall.

Howard Hines

White Lake

Howard Walter Hines, 82, of White Lake, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Prairie View Healthcare Community, Woonsocket. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Foothills Bible Fellowship in Wessington Springs. A Committal Service followed at Hope Cemetery, Wessington Springs. Visitation was held at the church prior to services on Wednesday.

Howard Walter Hines was born on Jan. 30, 1936, to Walter and Mollie (Rogers) Hines in Wessington Springs. He attended Barber Country School in the area. On March 17, 1960, Howard was united in marriage to Doris Martin at the First Assembly of God Church in Huron. He made a career farming in the White Lake area and driving truck. 

Howard enjoyed traveling, fishing and hunting, but most of all visiting with family and friends.

He is survived by: his two sons, Tim (Sherry) Hines of Mitchell, and Terry (Margie) Hines of Wessington; a daughter, Laurie (Todd) Dozark of Mitchell; four grandchildren; six siblings, Duane (LaVonne) Hines of Wessington Springs, Don (Mary) Hines of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Beverly Engelkes of Chester, Elaine Schlenker, Shirley Hines and Donna (Ed) Gray, all of Lane; a sister-in-law, Vicki Hines of Woonsocket; a brother-in-law, Larry Jones of Lane; along with many nieces and nephews. 

Howard was preceded in death by: his wife, Doris Hines; an infant daughter, Vicki Ruth; his parents; three brothers, Charles, Leonard and Larry Hines; two sisters, Darlene Hines and Brenda Jones; his mother and father-in-law; and two brothers-in-law, Joe Engelkes and Orville Schlenker.
