Joyce M. Schmoll, 88, of Tripp, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, at the Tripp Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 3, at Friedens Reformed Church in Tripp, with burial at the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation, with a scripture service, was Friday, Feb. 2, from 5-7 p.m., at the Goglin Funeral Home in Tripp.

Joyce M. Schmoll was born May 9, 1929, in Mitchell to Theophil “Tape” and Bessie (Radford) Schumacher. She attended and graduated from Tripp School District. Joyce went on to Yankton College for a teaching certificate and was proud to follow in her mother’s footsteps as an elementary teacher. She taught in the Wagner and Parkston School Districts.

Joyce married Darold J. Schmoll on April 24, 1960. They were together for 43 years, when Darold passed away. After marrying, Joyce dedicated her life to her family, raising their three children and caring for her mother and mother-in-law as they aged. She was also active helping Darold with his business as the bookkeeper and go-to-gal. When grandchildren arrived, Joyce loved being a devoted grandmother.

Joyce is survived by her three children: Paula Lynch of Woonsocket, James Schmoll of Uehling, Neb., and Carrie Gutierrez of Sioux Falls; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and a grandson, Darin Zoss.

Dorene Schmidt

Plankinton

Dorene Kay Schmidt, 73, of rural Plankinton, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at the Avera Weskota Memorial Hospital in Wessington Springs.

Prayer service with rosary was at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plankinton on Friday, Feb. 2. Funeral services were at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plankinton on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 10:30 am. Burial was at Union Cemetery in Belford Township.

Dorene was born June 28, 1944, to Ray and Edna (Stahl) Speck in Pierre. She graduated from Deadwood High School in 1962 and then moved with her family to Wessington Springs. She worked in Wessington Springs and Huron.

Dorene married Philip Schmidt on Aug. 24, 1968, in Wessington Springs, and to this union six children were born. They resided on a dairy farm north of Plankinton. Dorene worked as an administrative assistant at the South Dakota State Training School for fourteen years and was recognized as an outstanding employee.

Dorene was a talented woman, always willing to tackle the task at hand. Besides raising her own children, she also mothered others in need, and there was always room at the table for one or two more. She found joy in surprising her friends and family members with gifts in the mail.

Dorene is survived by her husband of 49 years, Philip Schmidt of Plankinton; six children: Michelle (Todd) Karst of Plankinton, Nicolle (Jeff) Jennings of Marshall, Minn., Matthew (Darcie) Schmidt of Kimball, Jonathon (Casey) Schmidt of Plankinton, Catherine Schmidt of Wessington Springs, and Elizabeth (Justin) Morrison of Mitchell; sixteen grandchildren; a brother, Larry (Sheila) Speck of Billings, Mont.; a sister, Linda (Allen) Clark of Huron; three sisters-in-law, Sherri Schmidt of Plymouth, Minn., Margaret (Leo) Koenig of Fairfax, and Mary (Lloyd) Potter of Pierre; her special cousin, Patricia Keeton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Henry Schmidt; mother-in-law, Katherine Schmidt; grandparents, Paul and Margaret Stahl, and Edward and Rosina Speck; and brothers-in-law Tom Schmidt and Jim Clark.

Arrangements were with Basham Funeral Home.

Timothy Crouch

Woonsocket

Timothy A. Crouch, 54, of Woonsocket, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at Aurora-Brule Care and Rehab in White Lake after fighting a long battle with severe heart disease.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Berean Fundamental Church in Gregory at 2 p.m., with Rev. Frank McMillen officiating. Interment of ashes will take place at the Peterson Cemetery in Lucas.

Tim was born on July 27, 1963, in Aberdeen. He moved to Burke with his mother at a young age, and then started school in Mitchell until his mother finished nursing school. They then moved to Gregory, where Tim continued school until his sophomore year of high school. He moved to Burke and decided to earn his GED. After high school, he earned an associate’s degree as an HVAC technician. He worked at several jobs in the manufacturing field before having to give up work due to his failing health.

Tim had several hobbies. When he was young, he had a love for cars and was a master at building all types of model cars. He always loved playing card games and doing puzzles, the more challenging the better. He took great pride in creating artistic projects once he couldn’t work anymore.

His favorite place to be was on his grandparents’ farm in rural Lucas. He worked very hard helping them with fieldwork and taking care of their animals. He had a lifetime love of fishing and tried to go as often as he could.

Tim is survived by his mother, Judie Whitepipe of Gregory; three children, Jennifer Crouch and John Crouch of Michigan, and BreAnna Crouch of Sioux Falls; his two sisters, Carrie (Jeff) Howard of Woonsocket, and Suzanne (Jim) Kahler of Plankinton; three grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Richard Crouch; his step-father, Elmer Whitepipe; and uncles, Charlie Whitepipe, Jr., and Wayne Middlesworth.
