Eric Olson

Artesian

Eric Neal Olson, 43, of Artesian, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell, with burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Artesian. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 3, from 6-8 p.m. at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell with a prayer service beginning at 8 p.m.
Eric Neal Olson was born Oct. 30, 1973, the oldest of three children to Neal and Kathleen (Schroeder) Olson at the Huron Regional Hospital in Huron. He attended all 12 years of school at Artesian/Letcher School, graduating in May of 1992. He played in the school band, on the football team and was a member of FFA. Eric helped design the Rebel school mascot. He attended school at SDSU in Brookings, and Bozeman University in Bozeman, Mont.
Eric lived in Sioux Falls where he held numerous jobs for two years. Eric then moved to Mitchell and commuted to his parent’s farm at Artesian to help farm. He was in the process of buying his grandparent’s house where they lived for several years.
He was an avid reader, wrote short stories and was a good artist. He read his Bible every day in different versions. He was trying to learn the Aramaic language Jesus and his disciples spoke.
Eric is survived by his parents, Neal and Kathleen Olson of Artesian; his sister, Nicole (Corey) Whitney of Armour; his brother, Ryan (Katrina) Olson of Artesian; nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Samuel Murray

Artesian

Samuel Michael Murray was born Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, to Michael and Leah Murray, weighing 3 pounds, 10 ounces, and 15 inches long. Samuel’s family was blessed with a beautiful hour with Samuel before he gained his angel wings, while in the arms of his parents.
Samuel is deeply loved and missed by his mommy, daddy, and big sister, Olivia. Also blessed by his birth are his grandparents, Tim and TerriAnn Murray and Doug and Holly Hansen, great-grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and many others. Samuel will remain in their hearts until they can hold him again in Heaven one day.
A private memorial will take place at a later date.

Joan Pearson

Huron

Joan Pearson, 84, of Huron and formerly of Forestburg, passed away Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.
Her funeral service was Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Huron Christian Church, with burial in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery at rural Huron. Visitation, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, was Monday, Oct. 23, and one hour prior to the service, also at the church.
Joan Jackson was born Sept. 16, 1933, to Amos and Myra (Farnish) Jackson at Barry, Texas. She grew up in Emhouse, Texas, until moving to Temple, Texas, where she graduated from high school. After high school, she worked as a bookkeeper at Ford Motor Co.
Joan married Carl Pearson on Jan. 17, 1953 in Temple when he returned from serving in Korea. They then moved to South Dakota, where she became a farm wife and they raised their family. She was a hard worker and taught her children good work ethics.
She was active in her church, serving as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher, and was also involved in a Home Extension Club for many years. Joan enjoyed sewing, and was an excellent cook and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family.
Joan is survived by her husband, Carl, of Huron; children, Gail (Ken) Farnham of Tulsa, Okla., Joey (Tammi) Pearson of Brandon, and Timothy (Julie) Pearson of Forestburg; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Louise Foster of Auburn, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Wanda Jackson; and brothers, Virgil Jackson and Clifton Jackson.
