The Town ‘N Kountry Kids Red Group 4-H Club celebrated American Education Week by thanking and honoring all the staff at Woonsocket School, as well as some school staff at Wessington Springs, Mitchell and home-schooled families. Club members made gifts of trail mix with a note attached that said, “Thank you for leading us down the trail of success!” along with personal appreciation notes. They also put M&M’s in the breakrooms for the “Magnificent & Marvelous” staff, along with brownies.

The third graders prepared for Thanksgiving by holding a parade in the elementary hallway. After studying the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and reading the book Balloons Over Broadway, each student got to design their own balloon float. They sketched it out, planned how to make it, and then they used the given materials to create their balloons. There were some frustrations in the creations at times, but the colorful, creative balloons brought many smiles to the audience.

Many guests came to the third-grade classroom to assist in the annual sewing project, which has become a favorite activity for many students throughout the years. The students created a Christmas-themed picture on a piece of fabric. Then, various volunteers came to the classroom to share their knowledge of sewing and hopefully impart an appreciation for the art of sewing. The students worked very hard with the help of these extra caring hands to complete this fantastic hand-sewn ornament.

Natalie Evans made The Impossible Shot during the Veterans Day program at Woonsocket School. Since the 2022-23 school year started, teachers and staff have nominated students for exemplifying good behavior and good character each week, and the students who are nominated get to take their chance at making what is considered the “Impossible Shot.” No one has made the shot since the first day of school, at least not until Thursday. On Thursday, before the Veterans Day program started, the school had their weekly assembly for that week’s nominees, and Natalie Evans made the shot on her first try. Congratulations, Natalie, first for being nominated for setting a good example in school, and next for making the “Impossible Shot.”

Evans is a senior at Woonsocket High School and the daughter of Chris and Kayla Evans of Woonsocket. Students at all grade levels are eligible to be nominated.
