Evelyn Braa, 95, Mitchell, formerly of Artesian, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012 in Firesteel Healthcare Center.
Funeral services were Saturday morning at Fedora Presbyterian Church, Fedora. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Artesian.
Visitation was in Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell.
She was born May 5, 1917 at rural Fedora to Howard and Ida (Clarke) Kelsey.
She graduated from Fedora High School, and on Dec. 25, 1936, she married Carl Braa.
They resided in Rockford, Ill., until 1945, when they returned and purchased a farm south of Fedora.
In 1962, they also established a launderette in Artesian, which they operated until it was destroyed by fire in 1970.
After the fire, they moved and built a new home in Artesian and she took over the café.
They wintered in Harlington, Texas, for 22 years.
She is survived by three sons, Dennis Braa, Sioux Falls, Curtis Braa, Waukegan, Ill., and Doug (Becky) Braa, Mokena, Ill.; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceeded in death by one brother, Blair Kelsey; and three sisters, Levon Gault, Bernetta Root and Bona May Murry.

Robert “Bob” Knigge

Robert “Bob” Knigge, born May 10, 1925, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012 in the Sioux Falls Veteran Hospital, Sioux Falls.
Memorial visitation service were held Thursday, Aug. 29 in the Basham Funeral Home, Woonsocket, from 5-7 p.m. with family present. Burial was at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, on Friday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m.
Arrangements were by Basham Funeral Service, Woonsocket.

School has just started and Homecoming Week is right around the corner. Homecoming will start on Sept. 10 and continue to Sept. 14.
The designated days for “Spirit Week” voted by the Student Council include:
Monday, Sept. 10 – Ugly Sweater Day;
Tuesday, Sept. 11 – Duct Tape/Rainbow  Day;
Wednesday, Sept. 12 –  Halloween/Costume Day;
Thursday, Sept. 13 – ‘80s Gym Wear Day;
Friday, Sept. 14 – Spirit Day –  Go Blackhawks!
On Thursday, Sept. 13, Coronation will begin at 7 p.m. in the Woonsocket Gym. There will be introductions for Football/Volleyball/Cheerleaders, etc. and other activities including burning of the “W” built by the freshmen class.
On Friday, Sept. 14, the Woonsocket School will have their annual parade starting at 1 p.m. The theme this year (voted on by the student council) is “Soda Pop.” Businesses who are interested in participating in the parade can sign up when lining up for the parade at 12:30 p.m. by Prairie View Care Center.
The football game against the Highmore/Harrold Pirates will start at 7 p.m. in Woonsocket.
I’m also asking students and alumni to be respectful towards our community when celebrating traditions during the week of festivities.
Homecoming is arriving quickly and we hope there is high involvement in the community.  This is one of the biggest events of the year for the Woonsocket School so let’s make it memorable for everyone.  Go Blackhawks!
