Louis Martin Kub, 93, of Ipswich, formerly of Aberdeen, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 in the Golden Living Center, Ipswich.
Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Sept. 24 in Holy Cross Catholic Church at Ipswich with Father Randy Phillips officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was Sunday in Shrivers Mortuary, Aberdeen, followed by a Liturgical Wake Service and one hour prior to services in the church on Monday.
Louis Martin Kub was born on the family farm north of Loyalton on Dec. 16, 1918 to Frank and Mary (Novotny) Kub. He graduated from Loyalton High School in 1936.
He married Hazel Heiser on April 22, 1941 in Denver.
In September of 1941 Louie became the first civilian employee at Lowry Field Air Base. He remained in the Air Corp and was preparing to leave for Antigua to activate a new air base when the war ended in 1945.
In 1946, Louie began working as manager of the Northside Arrow Foods Store. He continued in the grocery business in Wessington Springs and later in Woonsocket, where their children were born and raised.
After their retirement in 1981, Louie and Hazel lived in Huron and later moved to Aberdeen, where he worked part-time at Ken’s Fairway. Hazel passed away in March of 2002 and Louie remained in Aberdeen until 2010, when he entered the Golden Living Center in Ipswich.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan (Mike) Kraft of Aberdeen; his son, Paul (Kim) Kub of Lexington, S.C.; three grandchildren; and one sister, Irene Dosch.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; his parents; and his brothers, Al, Joe and Ernie.
