Sanborn Students vote Moore for Governor

Moore tallied up on Duffel and Miller

By Ashley Schmit
Liberty Party candidate Rachelle Moore defeated candidates Drew Duffel and Nick Miller in the campaign for governor on Nov. 6. Duffel represented with the Civil Party and came close to Moore, but Moore won with 39 percent of the votes.
The first straw poll from the sophomores put Nick Miller, who is for the Freedom Party, on top with 55 percent of the votes. Miller was in support of air conditioning, lowering the grading scale and also believed an incentive program would allow students to leave during study halls if they have a certain grade percentage. Moore, who was one of the candidates that fell short, was all about “Moore for the school,” while Duffel was all about change. Miller had more than doubled the candidates he was running against, but then the tables turned when the live debate took action.
The live debate was held in the Sanborn Central gym at 3 p.m. on Oct. 23. The Liberty Party and several undecided voters were very impressed with Moore as she came prepared and ready to speak. Moore shared her platform and stated her opinions on four day weeks, technology and an incentive program. She not only was looking to advance the school academically, but economically. After the debate, Moore dominated the next straw poll with 54 percent of the votes.
When asked what she plans on doing as governor Moore stated, “I plan on changing the lunch program and making rewards for students to give them an incentive to work hard in academics.”
