A total of 284 students at Mitchell Technical Institute have been placed on the Spring Semester 2013 President’s List, according to MTI President Greg Von Wald.
Included on the Spring 2013 President’s List are: Allison Schmit, Artesian, medical laboratory technology; Shanda Dean, Artesian, medical office professional; Matthew Hubbard, Artesian, telecommunications; Riley Zoss, Letcher, agricultural technology; Tasha Moody, Letcher, agricultural technology; Bryce Jessen, Letcher, information systems technology; Schyler Swenson, Woonsocket, agricultural technology.
A GPA of 3.5 or higher is required to receive this honor.

The Union Farmhands 4-H Club met July 11 at the home of Rachelle and Dillon Moore. The meeting was called to order by President Rachelle Moore. The flag salute was led by Katie Schmit. Sawyer Senska led the 4-H pledge.
Roll call was “Your favorite food.” Members present were Catherine and Jarid Bechen, Caleb and Toby Kneen, Rachelle and Dillon Moore, Ashley and Austin Schmit, Jessica and Katie Schmit and Aubrey and Sawyer Senska.
Jessica Schmit read the minutes from the last meeting. Ashley Schmit gave the treasurer’s report.
Old business discussed was the extra community calendars the club had. Members reported on serving at the pancake feed June 2.  Rachelle Moore told everyone about the Washington Focus 4-H trip she participated in.
A motion was made by Jessica Schmit, seconded by Catherine Bechen, to donate $25 to the 4-H Phon-a-thon. Members were reminded to put community service down for any that helped with street dance set up/clean-up.
New business consisted of discussing upcoming 4-H events. The Achievement Days schedule was gone over and registering projects was discussed.
It was motioned by Rachelle Moore, seconded by Dillon Moore, to combine the club’s savings account with checking to avoid dormant fees.
A reminder was given for club members to do demonstrations/illustrated talks by the next meeting.
The following demonstrations/illustrated talks were given: Ashley Schmit, “Cake in a Cup”; Catherine Bechen, “How to Make a Floral Lantern”; Rachelle Moore, “How to make fancy foods out of everyday ingredients”; Dillon Moore, ATV Safety Talk”; and Jessica Schmit, “Opportunity to Attend a Washington, D.C. Trip.”

The Sanborn County intends to apply for funds under Section 5311 of the Surface Transportation Assistance Act for the continued operation of a public transportation project in Davison County of South Dakota.
This notice offers the opportunity for a public hearing, submittal of service proposals or comments regarding the project. Interested public or private transit or paratransit providers are invited to comment on this proposal or submit proposals to provide the service. Requests for a public hearing, comments or request for a copy of the Section 5311 proposal should be directed to: Jessica Pickett, 300 W. 1st, Mitchell, SD 57301 by July 31, 2013.
