Glen Freidel, 77, Mitchell, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Avera Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, after a hard-fought battle with Lewy body dementia.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mitchell. Burial with military honors was in the American Legion Cemetery. Visitation was Monday evening with a scripture service at Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Glen was born Oct. 15, 1935 at Dimock to Edward and Hildagarde (Mattas). He grew up in Ethan.
He graduated from Ethan High School and moved to Lead, where he worked at Homestake Mine. He served in the U.S. Army at Ellsworth AFB. He then returned to the Ethan area and worked for Western Chevrolet at Mitchell, and then the U.S. Postal Service.
Glen married Elaine Marie Wudel, on Sept. 19, 1959. They lived at St. Paul, Minn., Cottage Grove, Minn. and Mitchell.
He was a mail carrier in Mitchell until he retired in 1990.
He was a resident for a time in Prairie View Care Center, Woonsocket.
Glen loved golfing, NASCAR, listening to Johnny Cash and garage-saling.
His survivors include four children, Lori (Tom) Roberts of Pierre, Karen (Matt) Heck of Black Hawk, Mark (Lisa) Freidel of Kansas City, Mo., and Craig (Brenda) Freidel of Mitchell; 10 grandchildren; his sisters, Bonnie Cronkite of Omaha, Neb. and Joanne Ingram of Polson, Mont.; and his brother, Keith of Oacoma.
Glen was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and sister, Shirley Wermers.
