Residents in and around the City of Woonsocket have become enthralled with the flock of Canada geese, which have decided to make Lake Prior a pit stop on their northern journey.
The geese arrived nearly two weeks ago and have been the talk of the town ever since. The flock seems to grow and shrink throughout each day as more birds land, others go off to feed, or perhaps move on, leaving the white snow-covered ice rather brown.
With temps still well below freezing heading into the Easter season, open water has been hard to come by for the migrating birds, so it seems the geese have decided they better enjoy this rare find.
The resident swans do not, however, seem very impressed. They force the geese to give them a wide berth in the water, but still can’t keep them out of their hay-filled home near the well.
Other avian species have been spotted in the millions, such as enormous flocks of blackbirds, that when seen on the horizon look like giant black swarms of mosquitoes or bumblebees.
