Groceries are back in town!

Woony Foods open for business

THE GROCERY store has taken on a little bit different look under the ownership of Bruce and Kandy Schmiedt and management of daughter-in-law Jody Schmiedt, and is open for business Thursday morning.

After nearly three and a half months, the county of Sanborn has a grocery store once again with Thursday’s opening of Woony Foods.
New owners Bruce and Kandy Schmiedt and store manager Jody Schmiedt are excited about the store’s opening. They, along with family, friends and employees, have worked countless hours cleaning, resetting and rearranging the space since purchasing the business over a month ago.
Dakotaland Federal Credit Union finalized the purchase of the former Darin’s Market building late in August. Dakotaland has had a branch office in the building since Darin’s opened in 2004.
The Schmiedts have made a few changes to the store, rearranging items, widening the aisles considerably and simplifying some things by eliminating the hardware section, sub sandwiches and video lottery.
The store is still with Affiliated Foods, so will offer many of the same options as Darin’s Market. The Schmiedts will continue the fresh cut meat, beer, liquor and wine, greeting cards, cleaning supplies and roasted whole chickens.
Dakotaland is also planning an expansion sometime next year, adding more office space and a drive up window.
Woony Foods will be open Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturdays 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Sundays 9 a.m.-noon.
