    Margie Oehlerking, 84, of Pierre died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013 at Avera Maryhouse Nursing Care Center.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 16 at First United Methodist Church with burial in Scotty Philip Cemetery.  Visitation was Thursday, Aug. 15 at First United Methodist Church with a prayer service.

Margie Deane Callihan was born March 20, 1929 in a farm house at Fedora to Ben and Bernice (Van Pelt) Callihan.  She grew up in Woonsocket, graduating from Woonsocket High School in 1947. Margie then attended beauty school in Sioux Falls, with a degree in cosmetology in March 1948.  After dating Milt Oehlerking for two years, they married on March 28, 1948, which was Easter Sunday.
Margie soon assumed the role of homemaker and rancher’s wife, first settling near Mitchell, then moving to Van Metre in the summer of 1949.  She was appointed the Van Metre Postmistress for eight years, working out of the old store building, which was also their home.
Milt and Margie moved south of Highmore to the Dewey Dam Ranch with their children Jim, Judy, Karen, Teresa and Wendy in March of 1960. Anita was born in 1967.  Margie worked hard with Milt in the fields, with the cattle, gardening, canning and raising their children.
Milt and Margie built a home and moved east of Pierre in December 1979. Margie worked at Kmart for 20 years.
She spent many hours at her sewing machine making clothes for her daughters and granddaughters, doll clothes and special flannel blankets for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Margi collected dolls her whole life.
Margie won her battle with Alzheimer’s on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013 surrounded by her family at Maryhouse in Pierre.
Margie was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church serving in many capacities over the years.  Over their 65 years of marriage Milt and Margie enjoyed dancing, playing cards, bowling and going to antique auctions.  In later years she enjoyed attending as many grandchildren’s activities as she was able.  Margie was always willing to help with home improvement projects from painting and wallpapering to knocking out a wall.  She definitely taught her children how to “Do-It-Yourself.”
She is survived by her husband, Milt of Ft. Pierre; her children, Jim (Mona) Oehlerking of Pierre, Karen (Larry) Johnson of Eldridge, Iowa, Teresa (Dave) Kusser of Pierre, Wendy (Ben) Smith of Pierre and Anita (Kyle) Wyly of Ft. Pierre; son-in-law, Jack Bickel of Firesteel; sister, Carol (Ken) Fairbanks of Sturgis; two half-sisters, Julene Krska and Janice (Arnold) Krska; half-brother, Jerry Baker; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Bickel; parents, Ben and Bernice Callihan; and brother, David.
Memorials may be directed to Countryside Hospice Memory Diagnostic Center and the Alzheimer’s Association.

Ada Marie Kott

Kimball

Ada Kott, 77, of Kimball, passed away Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013 in her home.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 in Kimball Protestant Parish. A Committal Service will follow in Kimball Community Cemetery.

Ada Marie Sievert was born on Feb. 15, 1936 to John Carl and Evelyn (Fouberg) Sievert at Woonsocket. She attended country school and was united in marriage to Emil Marcus Kott on April 15, 1962 at Forestburg. To this union two daughters were born, Nancy and Rita. Ada took pleasure in being a housewife and helped out on their farm southeast of Kimball until they retired, moving into Kimball in October of 1988. Ada was an active member of Protestant Parish and Drips American Legion #130 Auxiliary of Kimball. She enjoyed cutting quilt blocks and bowling.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Steve) Beckman of White Lake; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Thompson, Darlene Mentele and Rosetta Sievert; a brother, Maynard Sievert; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Sievert and Ella Varilek; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Ada was preceded in death by her daughter, Rita  in 1982; her husband, Emil in 1997; her grandparents; her parents; two brothers, Raymond Sievert and Harold Sievert; three sisters, Lucille Sievert, Judy Sievert and Dorothy (Roy) Kluth; five brothers-in-law, Ronald Thompson, Jim Mentele, Elmer (Gladys) Kott, Charlie Varilek and Clarence Kott; and two sisters-in-law, Kathryn Sievert and Margaret Thompson.

Leona M. Eagle

Wessington Springs

    Leona M. Eagle, 95, of Wessington Springs died Friday afternoon at Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 20 at the United Church of Christ in Wessington Springs with Rev. Sara Olson Dean officiating. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery. An Eastern Star Service will be held at Basham Funeral Home.
Leona Madge Deskins was born on Dec. 7, 1917 to Andrew and Lois (Crist) Deskins on a farm in Crow Township, Jerauld County.  She spent her young days playing outdoors and riding her horse “Bess” one and three fourths miles to school. She attended elementary school at Nelson School and high school at Wessington Springs High School.  She continued her education at Wessington Springs Junior College and took a teaching course.  She grew up attending Anina Congregational Church.
Leona was married to Theodore (Ted) William Eagle on June 15, 1940 at the Templeton Church.  They farmed in Harmony Township and Leona did substitute teaching. To this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters. They later moved to Dale Township and continued to farm and milk many dairy cows, until moving into Wessington Springs in 2005. After Ted moved to Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket, Leona lived with her daughter, Bonnie Feistner and her family. Leona moved to Prairie View Care Center in 2010.
Leona was a family woman. She loved being a mother and grandmother. She was so proud of all of her children and grandchildren. She loved flowers and gardening – maintaining large flower and vegetable gardens. She helped her husband with the farming and milking.  She loved to sew and was a proficient seamstress. She made many, many beautiful quilts including quilts for each of her grandchildren for graduation day.
Leona was a member of Wessington Springs United Church of Christ, UCC Women’s Circle, Springs Garden Club, Eastern Star and Dale Social Club.  She was a 4-H leader for 25 years and the 4-H Extension for 40 years.
Leona is survived by her children, James (Pat) Eagle of Wessington Springs, Bonnie (Merlin) Feistner of rural Woonsocket, Deanna (Daniel) Runyan of Rapid City and Gary (Mary) Eagle of Rapid City; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; her parents; her sister, Lavon; and her grandsons, Todd and Jace.
