Mass of Christian Burial was Monday morning, March 16 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux Falls with the Rev. Chuck Cimpl officiating. Visitation with rosary was held Sunday afternoon at Miller West Funeral Chapel in Sioux Falls. Interment was in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis.
Ila was born Dec. 1, 1929 to Heinerick “Hank” and Marcella (Kemptner) Knigge. She grew up on a farm near Woonsocket, one of nine children. She graduated from Woonsocket High School and attended nursing school in Mitchell. She became an RN and used her degree in many aspects of the medical field.
Ila married Richard “Rich” Joseph Burke Dec. 20, 1951, at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket. Rich passed away Dec. 14, 1993.
She lived in South Dakota the majority of her life, in Pierre and Sioux Falls, before moving to Minnesota to be near her daughter.
Ila is survived by five children, Mary Jo Bertsch, Las Cruces, N.M., John (Nancy), Rapid City, Theresa (Brian) Burke-Geagan, Healdsburg, Calif., Patti (Pat) McAdaragh, Burnsville, Minn., and Rebecca (Bill) Kornitzer, Parkville, Mo.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles (Myrna) Knigge, Woonsocket; a sister, Norma, Sioux Falls; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Mavis Steichen, Raymond “Sonny”, Mary Kogel, Henry “Corky”, Paul and Wallace “Bob”.

55022140422a9.image    Sheila Nelson, 66, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at the Rapid City Regional Hospice House.
Memorial visitation with wake service and rosary was Sunday, March 15 at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City.
Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, March 16, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rapid City with Father Ed Vanorny as celebrant.
Sheila Mary Cunningham Nelson was born March 19, 1948, to Raymond and Pearl (Clark) Cunningham of Artesian. Her parents ran the R&P Café. She attended the Artesian Public School for 12 years, graduating May 20, 1966. Her first job was with the Live Stock State Bank, now known as CorTrust Bank.
She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, St. Therese Altar Society and the church choir. She also sang in the city chorus.
She wed Clifton “Sammy” Nelson in a civil ceremony on May 2, 1975, in Tyndall. To this union two sons were born, Clinton Charles and Clayton Dean.
In 1979, the family moved to the Black Hills and she was remarried at the Mothers Chapel in the Cathedral. She was employed with Great Western Bank for 28 years. Upon retiring she worked at Black Hills Power.
She is survived by her sons, Clint (Bridgett) Nelson of Box Elder, and Clay (Salina) Nelson of Aberdeen; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
A memorial has been established to the Rapid City Cancer Society or the Cathedral for a handicap ramp into the church.

Bernice Seitz attended the open house for Don Scott on his 90th birthday at the Artesian Community Center on Sunday.
Kadyn and Averie Turner were overnight guests of their grandmother, Shirley Olson, on Saturday night.
Karen Klinkner visited Leona Klinkner at Wesley Acres on Thursday evening.
Roger Brink was a Thursday evening supper guest of Rita and Doug Trebil.
Joan Gaston attended Don Scott’s 90th birthday party at the Artesian Community Center Sunday afternoon.
Kristi and Wade Kaiser, Corey Olson and Kelly Olson attended the National Bull Riding Rodeo at the Denny Sanford Sports Arena in Sioux Falls. Thirty-five top world bull riders took part. Attending this was a gift from their mother, Shirley Olson.
Rita Trebil attended Don Scott’s 90th birthday party at the Artesian Community Center.
Jolyn Baysinger and daughter, Mila, and Leah Baysinger visited Joan Gaston on Saturday.
Becky Larson and son, Jarrod, of Chamberlain visited Leona Klinkner on Friday.
Joan Gaston was a coffee guest of Lloyd and Carol Hendrix Saturday morning.
Leona Klinkner and Ellen Jean Anderson visited Dorothy Weinberger Sunday afternoon.
Neal Olson was a Saturday afternoon visitor of Edna Olson.
Artesian First Lutheran Quilters met Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the church with 11 quilters present. The focus this month was making baby quilts and receiving blankets. Destiny and Ayla Moe, Samantha and Casidy Dean and Kara Wormstadt worked on the baby items and made a special baby quilt for Mrs. Moore, the fourth grade teacher at Sanborn Central, who is expecting a baby this spring. Five other large quilts were tied and numerous blocks cut and arranged. Those attending were the school age girls and Judi Larson, Kathy Peterson, Tambi Wormstadt, Deanna Dean, Jerolyn Dean and Judy Wormstadt.
There will be a special farewell for Kathy Peterson on Saturday evening, March 21, following the 6 p.m. church service at Artesian First Lutheran.  Kathy will be moving to Tea to live with her daughter, Kelly, and granddaughter, Charly.  Members are encouraged to attend and bring cards of well wishes. A light supper will be served. Kathy will be missed very much. She has been very active in the congregation, circle and quilting groups.
Lowell and Judy Wormstadt and Junior and Jerolyn Dean went on a road trip on Friday to Le Mars, Iowa. First they visited the I-29 Antique Mall at Tea, and then the Le Mars Toy Store. They had supper at Archie’s at Le Mars, which has been named the number one steakhouse in the United States. News media was there from New York to interview customers and present the award.
Jeff and Melissa Wormstadt hosted a joint birthday party for Lowell, Cole and Alex Wormstadt on Sunday afternoon and evening at their home. Those attending were Tristen Wormstadt and Brady Jacobsen, Morgan Renshaw, Karen Gross, Sharon Wollman, Evelyn Wormstadt, Marty, Tambi, Aiden, Noah and Kara Wormstadt, Jeff, Angie, Cayden and Brady Scott, and Lowell and Judy Wormstadt.
