Glenda (Senska) Thompson of Chamberlain celebrated her 97th birthday with family and friends on Saturday, April 23, at Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain.
The event was hosted by her children, Sheila Thompson of Chamberlain, Norma DuVall of Casper, Wyo., and David Thompson, also of Chamberlain. Those Senska family members who attended were Dianna Senska, Doug and Debey Senska, Keith and Barb Senska, Cullen Senska, Gwen Senska, Neil, Jeri and Parker Senska and Dale and Wanda Swenson.

The Letcher Legion Auxiliary recently completed judging of the 2016 annual poem and essay contests. First place in each division will advance to the district level.
Winners of the poem contest in grade three were: first, Bryce Larson; second, Jack Easton; third, Morgan Hoffman; winners in grade four were: first, Cooper Goldammer; second, Keaton Fridley; third, Trey Moody; winners in grade five were: first, Brady Larson; second, Emerson Kisor; third, Ellie Evans.
Winners of the essay contest in grades three and four were: first, Morgan Hoffman; second, Ciara Allen; third, Bryce Larson; winners in grades five and six were: first, Kenlie Fridley; second, Ellie Evans; third, Teya Moody; winners in grades seven and eight were: first, Kady Krueger; second, Chloe Degen; third, Cayden Slykhuis; winners in grades nine and ten were: first, Madi Moody; second, Cole Moody; third, Renee Farmer; winners in Grades 11 and 12 were: first, Bailey Moody; second, Myah Selland; third, Clayton Sewall. The first place winner for special needs was Haley Zoss.

Several area youth will benefit from programs sponsored by Central Electric Cooperative. Each year, Central Electric Cooperative awards three $1,000 academic scholarships and funds an educational trip to Washington, DC.
This year, Central Electric is sponsoring six students to attend the National Rural Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., Jennifer Luczak, daughter of Frank and Angie Luczak of Letcher, is one of the recipients.
